Possible Causes
Winterizing plugs not removed from suction lines, Air lock in high points of suction piping, Open drain cocks on filter or heater, Missing pump housing drain plug
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Ensure all valves are correctly positioned and pump is off before priming.
De-winterize system:
- Remove all winterizing plugs from skimmers, main drains, and suction lines.
- Close any drain cocks on the filter, heater, or chlorinator.
- Install and tighten the Speck pump housing drain plugs.
Prime carefully:
- Fill the pump housing completely with water through the strainer opening.
- Set valves to draw from the easiest suction source (usually main drain) and start the pump.
If priming still fails, check for suction-side leaks or blockages.
