Possible Causes
Age-related bearing wear, Water ingress past mechanical seal into motor, Misalignment between motor and pump housing, Corrosion on shaft
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off and lock out power before disassembling the pump.
Diagnosis:
- Remove the pump housing from the motor and run the motor briefly (if safe) to confirm noise originates from the motor, not the hydraulics.
- Spin the shaft by hand; roughness or play indicates bad bearings.
Repair:
- Experienced technicians can press out and replace the motor bearings and inspect the shaft.
- In many residential cases, replacing the complete Speck motor assembly is more practical.
Also replace the mechanical seal to prevent future water ingress into the new bearings.
