Possible Causes
Leaking Speck pump lid O-ring, Loose suction union at pump inlet, Cracked suction pipe above water level, Pool water level too low at skimmer
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the pump before opening the lid or working on plumbing.
Re-prime the pump:
- Ensure pool water level is at least halfway up the skimmer opening.
- Remove the Speck pump strainer lid and fill the housing completely with water.
- Inspect the lid O-ring for cracks, flattening, or dirt. Clean it and the sealing surface; replace the O-ring if damaged.
- Apply a thin layer of silicone-based lubricant to the O-ring and reinstall the lid tightly.
Check for suction leaks:
- Tighten the suction-side union on the pump inlet by hand, then slightly with a wrench if needed (do not overtighten plastic).
- Visually inspect suction pipes for cracks or joints above water level that could draw air.
Restart the pump and observe. The basket should fill within 1–2 minutes. If it does not, further investigation of underground suction lines may be required.
