Possible Causes
Supply voltage above pump rating, Incorrect wiring (230V pump wired to 277V), Loose neutral or ground reference in panel, Power surge or unstable utility supply
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: High voltage can cause severe injury. If you are not comfortable working inside an electrical panel, contact a licensed electrician.
- Verify nameplate voltage: Confirm the Sta-Rite pump is rated for the supply (typically 230V). Do not connect a 230V-only pump to 277V or 3-phase power.
- Measure line voltage: With power on and using a multimeter, measure between L1 and L2 at the pump. If voltage exceeds the rated value by more than ~10%, shut off power and call an electrician or utility provider.
- Check wiring configuration: Ensure the pump is wired exactly as shown in the Sta-Rite wiring diagram under the motor cover. Correct any miswiring (e.g., incorrect tap or jumper).
- Inspect for surges: If E02 appears after storms or grid events, consider installing a surge protector at the pool sub-panel to protect the pump drive.
- Reset and test: After correcting wiring or voltage issues, power cycle the pump and clear the error. If E02 recurs with correct voltage, the internal drive module may be damaged and require replacement.
