Possible Causes
Loose motor lead connection at terminal block, Failed output transistor in drive module, Damaged motor winding, Corroded or burned connector between drive and motor
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety warning: Only qualified persons should open motor and drive enclosures. Always disconnect power at the breaker first.
- Inspect motor connections: Remove the Sta-Rite pump motor wiring cover. Check that all motor leads are firmly attached and not burned or discolored. Tighten loose screws and replace any overheated connectors.
- Check harness between drive and motor: On integrated variable-speed models, inspect the plug or harness from the control module to the motor. Look for corrosion, water ingress, or broken pins. Clean and reseat or replace the harness.
- Test motor windings: With power off and wires disconnected, measure resistance between motor leads with a multimeter. Open or shorted windings indicate a failed motor.
- Drive module evaluation: If wiring and motor test good, the internal inverter section of the Sta-Rite drive may be defective. Replacement of the control/drive module is typically required.
