Sta-Rite pool pump is extremely noisy, with grinding or screeching sounds while running.

Safety: Turn off power before touching the pump or motor.

• Confirm source of noise: Use a mechanic's stethoscope or a long screwdriver to listen at the motor housing versus the wet end. Bearing noise will be loudest at the motor body.
• Check for leaks: Inspect the Sta-Rite pump seal plate area for water dripping along the motor shaft. A failed mechanical seal can allow water into the bearings.
• Tighten mounting: Ensure the pump base bolts are snug but not over-tightened, and that the base is level to avoid vibration.
• Plan motor replacement: Bearings in sealed pool pump motors are not typically user-serviceable. Replace the motor with a compatible Sta-Rite-rated motor and always replace the shaft seal at the same time.
