Acoustic Resonance / Worn Bearings on VS Motor
Sta-Rite pool pump is unusually loud with a high-pitched whine, especially at higher speeds on variable-speed models.

Possible Causes
Aging variable-speed motor bearings, Pump mounted on hollow or resonant pad, Motor running at resonant RPM range
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before touching the pump.
- Isolate vibration: Install rubber isolation pads under the Sta-Rite pump base to reduce noise transmission into the pad.
- Adjust speed settings: On variable-speed models, slightly adjust programmed RPMs up or down to avoid resonance frequencies that amplify noise.
- Check bearings: Listen closely at the motor body. If the whine is accompanied by roughness or grinding, the bearings are likely worn and the motor should be replaced.
- Secure plumbing: Ensure pipes are properly supported to prevent them from acting as soundboards.
