Possible Causes
Clogged Sta-Rite cartridge filter, Dirty sand filter needing backwash, Closed or partially closed return valve, Blocked heater or chlorinator
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off the pump before changing valve positions or opening filter equipment.
- Backwash or clean filter: For Sta-Rite sand filters, set the multiport valve to BACKWASH and run until water is clear, then RINSE and return to FILTER. For Sta-Rite cartridge filters, open the tank, remove cartridges, and hose them off thoroughly.
- Check return valves: Ensure all return-side valves are fully open and that any diverter valves are not restricting flow.
- Inspect heater and chlorinator: Check for clogged internal bypasses or scale buildup in heaters and inline chlorinators. Clean or service as needed.
- Re-test pressure: After cleaning, restart the pump and note the new filter pressure. Mark the clean pressure on the gauge for future reference.
