Possible Causes
Air leak on suction side, Pool water level too low, Inlet hose not fully submerged or blocked, Pump not properly primed
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Always unplug the pump before disconnecting hoses or opening the housing.
- Check pool water level: Ensure the water level is above the minimum mark on the pool wall and fully covering the intake fittings.
- Inspect suction hose connections: Tighten hose clamps at the pool wall fitting and pump inlet. Replace cracked or flattened hoses that may be drawing air.
- Prime the pump: Remove the pump lid (if accessible) and fill the housing completely with pool water. Reinstall the lid, ensuring the O-ring is clean and lubricated. Open all valves fully.
- Clear obstructions: Remove and clean the skimmer basket and any in-line strainers. Flush the suction hose with water to remove trapped air and debris.
- Restart: Plug the pump back in and start it. If E4 returns immediately with good water level and no air leaks, the internal flow or dry-run sensor may be faulty and the control head may need replacement.
