Pump emits a burning smell or the motor housing becomes extremely hot to the touch.

Safety First: Immediately unplug the pump. Do not continue to operate a pump that smells burnt.

• Allow to cool: Let the motor cool completely before further inspection.
• Reduce load: Clean or replace the filter cartridge and clear all obstructions in the plumbing.
• Improve ventilation: Clean motor vents and ensure the pump is not enclosed or covered.
• Check cord size: If an extension cord is necessary, use a heavy-gauge outdoor cord of minimal length. Undersized cords cause overheating.
• Assess motor: If the burning smell persists or the motor trips off quickly, the windings may be damaged and the motor assembly should be replaced.
