Possible Causes
Worn motor bearings, Debris in impeller, Cavitation from low suction pressure, Pump not mounted on solid base
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety First: Unplug the pump before inspection. Do not run the pump if grinding is severe.
- Check for debris: Remove the strainer cover and basket. Inspect the impeller for stones, screws, or hard debris and remove carefully.
- Eliminate cavitation: Ensure the suction line is not restricted and the pool water level is adequate. Fix any suction air leaks.
- Stabilize the pump: Place the pump on a firm, level pad. Use vibration-damping pads if necessary.
- Assess bearings: Spin the motor shaft or impeller by hand (with power disconnected). If it feels rough or makes scraping noises, the motor bearings are worn and the motor assembly should be replaced.
