Suction Air Leak / Loss of Prime
U.S. Motors pool pump loses prime frequently; pump basket does not stay full of water and suction is weak.

Possible Causes
Leaking pump lid O-ring, Loose suction union at pump inlet, Cracked suction plumbing or fittings, Low pool water level allowing air into skimmer
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power before opening the pump or adjusting valves.
- Check water level: Ensure pool water is at least halfway up the skimmer opening to prevent air ingestion.
- Inspect lid and O-ring: Verify the lid O-ring is in good condition, lubricated, and the lid is tight. Replace the O-ring if needed.
- Check suction fittings: Tighten the suction-side union at the U.S. Motors pump inlet. Inspect for cracks or misaligned threads.
- Use soapy water test: With the pump running, apply soapy water to suction joints above water level. Bubbles being sucked in indicate air leaks.
- Repair leaks: Replace cracked fittings, re-glue leaking joints, or replace unions as needed. Re-prime the pump and verify a solid, air-free flow.
