Possible Causes

Incoming supply voltage below specification, Loose line or neutral connection at pump terminal block, Undersized extension cord or long cable run causing voltage drop

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the pool sub‑panel breaker and verify with a non‑contact voltage tester before touching any wiring.

  • Check supply voltage: With a multimeter and power restored, measure voltage at the pump input lugs. For a 230V Waterway pump, you should typically see 208–240V. If it is significantly lower, contact an electrician or your utility.
  • Inspect wiring connections: Turn power back off. Remove the Waterway pump motor rear cover and inspect the line (L1, L2) and ground connections on the terminal block. Tighten any loose screws and look for heat discoloration or melted insulation.
  • Check cable length and gauge: If the pump is fed by a long run of cable or an extension cord, verify the wire gauge meets Waterway’s installation manual (often 12 AWG or larger for 230V). Replace undersized or damaged cable.
  • Reset the pump: After correcting wiring or voltage issues, restore power and press the pump’s RESET or STOP/START button. If E01 persists with correct voltage, the control board may be misreading line voltage.

If you are not comfortable working with live electrical circuits, contact a licensed electrician or pool professional.
