Possible Causes

Partially blocked impeller, High system head pressure (closed valves, dirty filter), Incorrectly sized impeller installed, Motor winding degradation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Turn off power and relieve system pressure before opening any part of the plumbing.

  • Check valves and filter: Ensure all suction and return valves are fully open. Backwash or clean the filter to reduce system pressure.
  • Inspect pump basket and impeller: Remove the Waterway pump lid and basket. Check for debris at the suction port. If needed, remove the pump housing bolts and diffuser to access the impeller and clear any obstructions.
  • Verify impeller size: Compare the installed impeller part number to the pump model. An oversized impeller can overload the motor and should be replaced with the correct Waterway impeller.
  • Start at lower RPM: Program the pump to ramp up from a lower speed instead of starting at maximum RPM. If E09 only occurs at very high speeds, the motor may be weakening and could require replacement.
