Possible Causes
Shorted motor windings to ground, Water intrusion into motor junction box, Pinched or damaged power cable, Incorrect wiring causing line‑to‑line short
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Do not repeatedly reset a breaker that trips instantly. Turn off power and lock out if possible.
- Inspect cable and junction box: Check the power cable from the panel to the Waterway pump for cuts or crushed sections. Open the motor junction box and look for water, corrosion, or pinched wires.
- Test insulation: With power off and wires disconnected, use a megohmmeter (if available) to test resistance from each motor lead to ground. Low resistance indicates a ground fault.
- Check wiring connections: Verify that line conductors are correctly landed on L1 and L2 and not touching each other or ground.
- Dry and reseal: If moisture is present, dry the area thoroughly and reseal with proper gaskets and strain reliefs. If the motor still trips the breaker, replace the motor.
