Possible Causes

Tripped breaker at pool sub‑panel, Failed pump timer or relay, Loose wiring at Waterway pump terminal block, Defective motor thermal overload (open)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Always turn off the main breaker before opening electrical enclosures.

  • Check breaker and GFCI: Inspect the pool pump breaker and any GFCI outlets feeding the pump. Reset if tripped. If it trips again immediately, there may be a short.
  • Bypass timer (for testing): If the pump is controlled by a mechanical or digital timer, set it to manual ON or temporarily bypass it to see if the pump starts.
  • Verify voltage at pump: With power on and using a multimeter, confirm correct voltage at the Waterway pump’s line terminals. If no voltage is present, trace back through the timer/relay and wiring.
  • Inspect terminal block: Turn power off, remove the motor rear cover, and tighten all terminal screws. Look for burnt or broken wires and repair as needed.
  • Motor overload: Some Waterway motors have an internal resettable overload. Allow the motor to cool for 30–60 minutes and try again. If still dead with correct voltage, the motor or overload is likely failed and the motor assembly should be replaced.
