Possible Causes
Impeller jammed by debris, Seized motor bearings, Incorrect voltage or wiring, Shorted motor windings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Disconnect power at the breaker and verify with a meter if available. Water and electricity are dangerous.
- Check for mechanical blockage: Remove the pump lid and basket. Reach into the wet end (do not use sharp tools) and feel for debris lodged in the impeller eye. Remove any stones, twigs, or plastic.
- Spin the shaft: At the rear of the motor, remove the cover and try to rotate the shaft or cooling fan by hand. It should turn smoothly. If it is locked or very stiff, the bearings or impeller are seized.
- Inspect wiring: Confirm that the pump is wired according to the Zodiac wiring diagram on the motor label. Check for loose connections, burnt terminals, or signs of overheating.
- Reset: Restore power and attempt a reset by turning the pump off and back on via the control panel. If ERR1 returns immediately, internal motor damage is likely.
Seized motors or shorted windings require motor replacement. This is typically a technician-level repair.
