Possible Causes
Blocked motor ventilation, High ambient temperature and poor airflow, Overloaded pump due to high head pressure, Failing motor bearings
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power and allow the motor to cool before touching it.
- Clear ventilation: Remove leaves, dirt, and cobwebs from the motor cooling vents and fan shroud. Ensure at least 12 inches of clearance around the motor for airflow.
- Check filter pressure: Read the filter pressure gauge. If it is significantly higher than normal, backwash or clean the filter to reduce load on the pump.
- Verify voltage: Have a qualified person check that the Zodiac pump is wired for the correct voltage (e.g., 230V vs 115V) and that supply voltage is within spec. Undervoltage can cause overheating.
- Spin test: With power off, try turning the motor shaft or impeller by hand (through the rear fan). If it feels rough or stiff, the bearings may be failing and the motor should be replaced.
If the HOT error recurs frequently after cleaning and filter maintenance, schedule a technician to evaluate motor condition and system sizing.
