Possible Causes
Minor suction-side air leak, Check valve not holding (if installed), Lid O-ring seepage, Underground suction leak
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Turn off power before inspection.
- Replace lid O-ring: Even small imperfections can allow air in over time; install a new Zodiac lid O-ring.
- Check suction check valve: If a check valve is installed on the suction line, inspect or replace it if it does not seal properly.
- Tighten unions and fittings: Slightly tighten suction-side unions and inspect for hairline cracks.
- Overnight test: Mark water level in pump basket at shutdown and check in the morning to see how far it drops, helping locate the leak source.
If the pump still loses prime, a professional leak detection service may be needed.
