Possible Causes
High ambient temperature, Restricted ventilation, Running at high speed continuously, High system backpressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Avoid touching the motor housing when hot; allow it to cool before inspection.
- Improve airflow: Clear debris around the motor and ensure it is not enclosed without ventilation.
- Adjust speed schedule: On Zodiac variable-speed pumps, reduce the maximum RPM and run longer at lower speeds to reduce heat.
- Clean filter: Lower system pressure by cleaning or backwashing the filter and opening valves fully.
- Check voltage: Have a qualified person verify that supply voltage is within the motor's rated range.
Continued overheating can shorten motor life; if temperature remains excessive, consult a technician.
