AGA Partial Heating Failure or Insulation Loss

AGA oven takes excessively long to reach temperature or never reaches set temperature

Possible Causes

One of multiple elements failed, Faulty thermostat not closing fully, Heat loss due to damaged door seal, Deteriorated cavity insulation

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Isolate power or gas before inspection.

  • Check door seal: Inspect the oven door gasket for splits, gaps, or hardened sections. Close the door on a sheet of paper; if it pulls out easily, the seal or hinges may be worn.
  • Test all heating modes: Try fan, conventional, and grill. If one element is not working, the oven may heat slowly.
  • Inspect hinges: Ensure the door closes firmly and is not sagging. Replace worn hinges if necessary.
  • Monitor preheat time: A typical AGA electric oven should reach 180°C in around 10–15 minutes. Significantly longer times suggest an element or thermostat issue.

When to call a technician: If elements and seals appear intact but performance is poor, an engineer should test the thermostat and internal wiring.
