Possible Causes

Failed oven temperature sensor (NTC probe), Shorted sensor wiring harness, Stuck closed heating relay on control board, Poor airflow around control panel causing overheating

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool fully before inspection.

  • Allow full cool-down: Leave the oven door open slightly and let the appliance cool for at least 30–60 minutes. Restore power and see if F2 clears.
  • Check for blocked vents: Ensure the cooling vents above and below the AGA control panel are not blocked by foil, pans, or trim. Clear any obstructions to improve airflow.
  • Inspect temperature sensor: Locate the oven temperature sensor probe inside the cavity (usually a thin metal rod at the rear). Check that it is firmly mounted and not touching the oven wall or bent.
  • Basic continuity check (for skilled users): With power off, remove the rear panel to access the sensor connector. Disconnect and measure resistance with a multimeter; a typical AGA NTC sensor is around 1000–1100 Ω at room temperature (check your model’s spec). If reading is open, shorted, or far out of range, replace the sensor.
  • If sensor tests OK: The control board’s temperature circuit or heating relay may be faulty and keeping elements on too long. This requires control board replacement.

When to call a technician: If you cannot safely access the rear of the cooker or do not have a meter, or if F2 recurs after sensor replacement, contact an AGA service engineer.
