Possible Causes

Clogged burner ports, Faulty spark electrode, Failed ignition module, No gas supply or closed gas isolation valve

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn all burner knobs to OFF. If you smell gas, do not ignite any flames or operate electrical switches. Ventilate the room and shut off the gas at the main supply, then contact a gas-safe engineer.

  • Check gas supply: Ensure the gas isolation valve to the AGA range is open and that other gas appliances work.
  • Clean burner caps and ports: Remove the burner caps and heads. Clean with a soft brush and a pin to clear blocked ports. Ensure parts are completely dry and correctly reassembled.
  • Check spark: Turn a burner knob to ignite and observe the electrode. If there is no spark, the electrode or ignition module may be faulty.
  • Swap components: If one burner does not spark but others do, swap the burner cap/head with a working burner to rule out a mechanical issue.

When to call a technician: If there is no spark on any burner, or if gas is present but not igniting safely, a qualified gas engineer must test and replace the ignition module or electrodes.
