Possible Causes
Open surface heating element, failed infinite control switch, burnt element receptacle, broken wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Disconnect power at the breaker before removing any cooktop components.
- Test other elements: If only one element fails, the problem is likely with that element, its switch, or its receptacle. If all fail, suspect supply or main control.
- Inspect element and receptacle: For plug-in elements, remove the surface element and inspect the terminals and receptacle for burns or pitting. Replace the element and/or receptacle if damaged.
- Continuity test: Use a multimeter to test the element for continuity. An open reading indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- Check infinite switch: If the element is good, test the corresponding infinite switch for continuity between terminals when turned on. Replace the switch if it does not close properly.
Ensure all wiring connections are tight and properly insulated before restoring power.
