Possible Causes
Wet or contaminated igniter, stuck burner switch, shorted spark module, misaligned burner cap causing poor flame sensing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the burner. Avoid touching hot grates or caps.
- Dry igniters: If the issue started after a spill or cleaning, moisture may be causing continuous sparking. Turn off power to the range and allow the cooktop to dry for several hours. You can gently dry around igniters with a cloth.
- Realign burner caps: Ensure each burner cap is properly seated on its base. Misalignment can prevent the flame from properly grounding the igniter.
- Check burner switches: With power disconnected, access the burner switches behind the knobs. A switch stuck in the closed position will cause constant sparking. Test each for proper operation and replace any that remain closed when the knob is off.
- Inspect spark module: If all switches test good and igniters are dry, the spark module may be shorted and require replacement.
Do not leave burners clicking continuously; this can wear out the igniters and be a nuisance.
