Possible Causes
Overheated or jammed door lock motor, warped latch, failed door lock switch, control not receiving unlock signal
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Allow the oven to cool completely; internal temperatures after self-clean can exceed 800°F. Disconnect power before attempting mechanical release.
- Wait and power reset: After the clean cycle, wait at least 1 hour. Then turn off power at the breaker for 5 minutes and restore. Sometimes the lock will reset and release.
- Manual release: Consult your service manual for the location of the manual door lock release (often accessible from the top or rear). Use a tool to gently move the release to unlock the door.
- Inspect lock assembly: Once open and cool, access the door lock assembly. Check for melted plastic, bent latch, or seized motor. Replace the assembly if damaged.
- Check switches: Test the lock and unlock switches for proper continuity. Replace if they do not change state when the lock moves.
Do not force the door open; this can damage the hinges and frame.
