Possible Causes

Burn-off of manufacturing oils, protective coatings on elements, insulation curing

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety note: This is usually normal for a new American Range appliance but should dissipate after initial use.

  • Initial burn-in: Remove all packaging materials, labels, and plastic from the oven and cooktop. Run the oven empty at 400–450°F for 30–60 minutes with good ventilation.
  • Ventilate: Open windows and use exhaust fans to clear odors during the first few cycles.
  • Monitor: If the smell persists after several uses or smells like burning wiring (sharp, acrid), disconnect power and have the unit inspected.

Do not leave the oven unattended during the initial burn-in cycle.
