Possible Causes

Open bake element, Open broil element, Tripped thermal cutoff / high-limit thermostat, Failed electronic oven control relay

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. Electric ranges use 240 V which is lethal.

  • Check elements visually: Inspect the bake and broil elements for breaks, blisters, or burn marks. Replace any visibly damaged element.
  • Continuity test: Disconnect at least one wire from each element and test for continuity with a multimeter. Replace any element that tests open.
  • Check thermal cutoff: Access the rear of the range and locate the thermal cutoff / high-limit thermostat on the back of the oven cavity. Test for continuity; if open, replace it and investigate cause of overheating (blocked vents, etc.).
  • Control output: If elements and cutoff are good, the EOC may not be sending power. With proper safety and experience, test for 240 V at the element terminals during a bake command. If no voltage, replace the electronic oven control board.
