Possible Causes
Failed oven igniter, No gas flow to oven safety valve, Faulty oven thermostat or control, Broken igniter wiring
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and shut off gas supply before removing panels. Avoid sparks or open flames.
- Observe igniter: Restore power and gas. Set oven to bake and look through the bottom panel or broiler drawer. The igniter should glow within 30–60 seconds. If it does not glow, or glows but the burner never lights, turn everything off and proceed.
- Access igniter: Remove the oven bottom panel and flame spreader to expose the bake burner and igniter.
- Inspect igniter: Look for cracks in the ceramic or broken wires. If damaged, replace the bake igniter.
- Current draw test (advanced): A weak igniter may glow but not draw enough current to open the gas valve. If you have a clamp meter and experience, measure igniter current; if below manufacturer spec, replace the igniter.
- Check wiring and valve: Inspect wiring from igniter to gas safety valve and control. If igniter is new and wired correctly but oven still will not light, the oven gas safety valve or control may be faulty and should be tested or replaced by a professional.
