Possible Causes
Failed oven temperature sensor (NTC), Shorted sensor wiring harness, Stuck bake or broil relay on control board, Poor airflow around oven cavity
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool completely before working.
- Visual check: Ensure the oven door closes properly and that the door gasket is intact. A leaking door can cause overheating near the control.
- Test temperature sensor: Locate the oven sensor probe inside the cavity (usually back wall). Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward to access the connector. Disconnect and measure resistance with a multimeter at room temperature (typically around 1000–1100 Ω at 20–25°C for Bauknecht NTC sensors). Replace if reading is open, shorted, or far out of spec.
- Inspect wiring: Check the sensor harness from the probe to the control board for damage or melted insulation, especially near the rear of the oven.
- Control board relays: If the sensor tests good, the bake or grill relay on the EOC may be stuck closed, causing continuous heating. In this case, the EOC must be replaced.
Warning: Never run a self-clean cycle if F2 has occurred; this can further overheat and damage components.
