Possible Causes
Open-circuit ceramic hob element, burnt thermal limiter, damaged wiring to element, faulty hob control switch or energy regulator
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate the cooker from mains and verify no power is present before removing the hob top.
- Visual inspection: From above, look for dark spots or cracks under the glass where the element sits. From below, inspect the element for breaks or burn marks.
- Test element: Disconnect the element terminals and measure resistance. An open circuit indicates a failed element that must be replaced.
- Check limiter: Many elements have an integrated thermal limiter. If the limiter is open, the element will not heat. Replace the entire element/limiter assembly if faulty.
- Control switch: If the element tests good, the energy regulator or control switch may be defective and should be tested and replaced as needed.
