Possible Causes
Open-circuit oven temperature sensor (NTC probe), shorted oven temperature sensor, damaged sensor wiring harness to main PCB, failed main control PCB sensor input
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the cooker at the wall switch and isolate at the consumer unit (remove fuse or switch off breaker). Confirm the appliance is completely cold before working near the oven cavity.
- Power reset: Leave the appliance fully isolated for 5–10 minutes, then restore power. If F1 reappears immediately when selecting the main oven, continue below.
- Check oven sensor resistance: Remove the rear panel of the cooker. Locate the main oven temperature sensor (thin metal probe entering the cavity, usually top rear, with two wires leading to a plug). Disconnect the plug and measure resistance across the sensor with a multimeter. At room temperature, most Belling NTC sensors read roughly 1–1.1 kΩ or 500–1100 Ω depending on model. An open circuit (OL) or near 0 Ω indicates a faulty sensor.
- Inspect wiring: Follow the sensor harness back to the main control PCB. Look for burnt, pinched, or broken wires and loose connectors. Reseat the plug on the PCB and ensure it is fully latched.
- Replace sensor if faulty: If resistance is out of spec or intermittent when you gently flex the cable, replace the main oven temperature sensor with a Belling-compatible NTC probe. Fit the new sensor from inside the cavity (secured by one or two screws) and reconnect the harness at the rear.
- Check control board: If the sensor and wiring test correctly but F1 persists, the main control PCB sensor input may be defective. Visual inspection for burnt tracks or components can confirm suspicion, but replacement of the PCB is usually required and is best done by a qualified technician.
