Possible Causes

Tripped or failed high-limit thermostat, blocked cooling vents, failed cooling fan, stuck-closed oven thermostat relay on PCB

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: Switch off and isolate the appliance. Allow the oven to cool completely before attempting any reset or inspection.

  • Check ventilation: Ensure the cooker has adequate clearance around it and that front and rear vents are not blocked by foil, pans, or cabinetry.
  • Reset high-limit thermostat (if resettable type): Remove the rear panel. Locate the high-limit thermostat (small round or rectangular device on the oven top or rear, often with a red reset button). Press the button firmly until you feel a click. If it immediately trips again on next use, further diagnosis is needed.
  • Inspect cooling fan: On many Belling electric ranges, a cavity cooling fan runs when the oven is hot. Spin the fan by hand to check for stiffness. If it does not run when the oven is heating, test for power at the fan terminals (only with power on and by a competent person). Replace the cooling fan motor if seized or not receiving power due to internal failure.
  • Check for thermostat/PCB faults: If the oven temperature runs excessively high before F3 appears, the main thermostat or electronic control relay may be stuck closed. This requires testing the thermostat sensor and relay contacts on the PCB. Replacement of the thermostat or PCB is recommended to be done by a qualified technician.
