Possible Causes
Failed hob cooling fan motor, blocked air intake or exhaust, faulty fan control circuit on PCB, fan connector unplugged
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Isolate the hob from mains. Do not operate the hob with covers removed.
- Listen for fan: When the hob is first turned on, you should hear the cooling fan briefly. If there is no sound, suspect a fan or control issue.
- Access fan: Remove the hob from the worktop and take off the bottom cover. Locate the cooling fan assembly.
- Check for obstructions: Remove any debris, insulation, or wiring that may be fouling the fan blades. Spin the fan by hand to ensure it moves freely.
- Electrical test: With power off, test the fan motor for continuity. If open circuit, replace the fan. If it has continuity, check that it receives voltage when the hob is powered (this test should only be done by someone competent with live testing).
- Control fault: If the fan is good but never powered, the control PCB may not be driving it. Replacement of the PCB is usually required.
