Possible Causes
Faulty thermocouple on burner, misaligned flame not heating sensor, weak gas pressure, defective gas valve magnet
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety: Gas components must be handled by a Gas Safe registered engineer in many regions.
- Hold knob longer: Press and hold the control knob for 5–10 seconds after ignition to allow the thermocouple to heat fully. If the flame still goes out, continue below.
- Clean burner and sensor: Ensure the flame failure sensor (small metal probe near the burner) is clean and directly in the flame. Clean with a soft brush.
- Check flame quality: A very small or yellow flame may not heat the thermocouple enough. Have gas pressure and injector size checked by a professional.
- Replace thermocouple or valve: If the flame is good but will not stay lit, the thermocouple or the gas valve magnet coil may be faulty and should be replaced by a qualified engineer.
