Possible Causes

No gas supply or closed gas isolation valve, blocked burner jets, faulty spark electrode, failed ignition generator (spark module)

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety: If you smell gas, turn off the gas supply immediately, ventilate the room, and do not use electrical switches. Contact a Gas Safe registered engineer.

  • Check gas supply: Ensure the gas isolation valve to the cooker is open and that other gas appliances in the home are working.
  • Clean burner caps and jets: Remove burner caps and heads. Clean with a soft brush and a pin to clear any food debris from the jet holes. Ensure parts are dry and correctly seated.
  • Observe spark: Turn the control knob to ignite and watch for a strong blue spark at the electrode. If weak or absent on all burners, suspect the ignition generator. If only one burner is affected, the electrode or its wiring may be faulty.
  • Replace ignition parts: Replace damaged electrodes or the ignition generator with Belling-compatible parts. Gas work should be carried out by a qualified engineer.
