Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, Stuck relay on electronic oven control board, Poor oven cavity ventilation, Incorrect sensor installation or contact with oven wall
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Switch off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool fully.
- Check for obvious overheating: Remove racks and inspect the cavity for foil covering vents, blocked convection fan cover, or oversized cookware that restricts airflow. Remove obstructions.
- Test the oven sensor: Access the oven temperature sensor at the rear wall inside the oven. Disconnect it and measure resistance at room temperature. If resistance is significantly lower than specification (indicating a short) or does not change when warmed slightly, replace the sensor.
- Inspect sensor routing: Ensure the sensor is not bent so that its tip touches the oven wall or element, which can cause false high readings.
- Control board evaluation: If the sensor is within spec, the relay on the EOC may be stuck closed, keeping the element energized. Inspect the board for burnt spots. If suspected, replace the electronic oven control.
Warning: Do not bypass safety thermostats or operate the oven if it repeatedly overheats; fire risk is significant.
