Possible Causes
Shorted sensor element, Moisture intrusion into sensor, Shorted sensor harness to chassis, Faulty control board sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the oven to cool.
- Inspect sensor and harness: Access the oven sensor from inside the cavity. Check for signs of moisture, corrosion, or damage at the sensor head and wiring grommet.
- Resistance test: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. If resistance is significantly below specification (indicating a short), replace the sensor.
- Check for shorts to chassis: With the sensor unplugged, check continuity between each sensor lead and the oven chassis. There should be no continuity. If there is, inspect the harness for insulation damage and repair or replace.
- Control board: If sensor and harness are good, the control board may be misreading the sensor. Replace the electronic oven control if F4 persists.
Warning: Do not attempt to dry a wet sensor in the oven; always replace a moisture-damaged sensor.
