Possible Causes

Failed door lock motor, Misaligned door latch, Faulty door lock switch, Broken wiring between lock assembly and control board

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Disconnect power before working on the door lock. Ensure the oven is cool.

  • Check door alignment: Verify that the oven door closes fully and evenly. Adjust hinges or strike plate if the door is sagging or misaligned.
  • Listen for lock motor: When starting self-clean (with power on), listen for the lock motor. If it hums but does not move, the mechanism may be jammed. Cancel the cycle and disconnect power before proceeding.
  • Access lock assembly: Remove the top panel or rear panel (depending on model) to access the door lock motor and latch. Inspect for bent linkage, broken plastic parts, or obstructions. Free any jams and lubricate pivot points lightly with high-temperature-safe lubricant.
  • Test switches: Use a multimeter to test the lock position switches for proper open/closed operation as the latch moves. Replace the door lock assembly if switches are faulty or the motor is open.
  • Reset door manually: On some models, you can manually rotate the lock cam to release a stuck door. Refer to the service manual for the correct procedure.

Warning: Never force the oven door open during or immediately after self-clean; glass breakage and burns can occur.
