Possible Causes
Wet or contaminated spark electrodes, Stuck or shorted ignition switch on burner knob, Faulty spark module, Misaligned burner cap causing poor flame sensing
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn all burner knobs to OFF and disconnect power to the range.
- Dry components: If the issue started after cleaning or a spill, remove burner caps and heads and dry them thoroughly. Allow the cooktop to air dry for several hours or use a fan.
- Clean electrodes: Gently clean the spark electrodes with a dry cloth to remove moisture and residue.
- Check knob switches: With power still off, remove the knobs and inspect the ignition switches on the valve stems. Look for signs of corrosion or liquid intrusion.
- Test switches: Using a multimeter, test each ignition switch for proper open/closed operation when the knob is turned. Replace any switch that remains closed when in the OFF position.
- Inspect spark module: If all switches are good and dry, but sparking continues, the spark module may be stuck and should be replaced.
Note: Avoid pouring liquids directly onto the cooktop; use a damp cloth instead.
