Possible Causes
Shorted oven temperature sensor, Sensor wiring shorted to chassis, Melted harness insulation near oven cavity, Failed EOC sensor circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker and allow the appliance to cool.
- Inspect sensor and wiring: Access the rear of the range and locate the sensor harness. Look for areas where the wire may have contacted hot metal or sharp edges, causing a short. Repair or replace damaged wiring.
- Measure sensor resistance: Disconnect the sensor and measure resistance at room temperature. A very low resistance (near 0 Ω) indicates a shorted sensor. Replace the sensor if readings are out of spec.
- Check for chassis shorts: With the sensor disconnected, check each sensor lead to chassis ground with a multimeter. Any continuity indicates a short in the harness that must be corrected.
- Replace EOC if needed: If sensor and harness are good but F4 persists, replace the EOC.
- Final test: After reassembly, restore power and run a bake cycle to verify stable temperature and absence of error codes.
