Possible Causes

Failed spark igniter, Clogged burner ports, No gas supply to burner manifold, Faulty ignition module

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off gas at the shutoff valve and disconnect power before servicing. Ventilate the area if you smell gas; do not ignite flames or operate electrical switches.

  • Check gas supply: Verify the manual gas shutoff valve to the range is fully open. Confirm other gas appliances in the home are working.
  • Clean burner: Remove the burner cap and head. Clean all ports with a soft brush or wooden toothpick. Ensure the burner sits flat and properly aligned with the igniter.
  • Inspect igniter: Check the spark electrode for cracks, heavy buildup, or misalignment. The tip should be close to the burner edge (typically 1/8–3/16 inch gap). Adjust gently if needed.
  • Test spark: Restore power (gas still off) and turn the knob to ignite. Look and listen for a strong, regular spark. If no spark, suspect the igniter or ignition module.
  • Replace faulty parts: Replace the specific BlueStar surface burner igniter or oven igniter if it does not spark. If multiple burners fail to spark, replace the ignition module.
