Possible Causes
Aged or weak glow-bar igniter drawing insufficient current, Sticking oven safety valve, Poor electrical connection in igniter circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off gas and power before handling components.
- Observe ignition: With the oven assembled, start a bake cycle and watch through the bottom panel vents. If the igniter glows dull orange and the burner never lights, the igniter is likely weak.
- Measure igniter current (advanced): If you are qualified, use a clamp meter to measure current draw of the igniter. Compare to the specification for your BlueStar igniter (typically around 3.2–3.6 A for many glow bars). Low current indicates a weak igniter.
- Inspect connections: Turn off power and check all wire nuts and connectors in the igniter circuit for tightness and signs of overheating.
- Replace igniter first: In most cases, replacing the igniter resolves this symptom. Install the correct BlueStar oven igniter and test.
- Safety valve check: If a new igniter glows properly but the burner still does not light, the oven safety valve may be defective and should be replaced by a qualified technician.
