Possible Causes
Stuck oven thermostat (mechanical models), Shorted temperature sensor, EOC relay stuck closed, Miswired bake/broil elements or burners after service
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power and gas immediately if the oven overheats uncontrollably. Allow to cool fully before inspection.
- Check control setting: Confirm the oven is not accidentally set to broil or a high temperature.
- Test sensor: On electronic models, test the oven temperature sensor resistance at room temperature. Replace if out of specification.
- Inspect thermostat (mechanical): On non‑electronic BlueStar ranges with mechanical thermostats, a stuck thermostat can cause overheating. If the oven continues heating after the knob is turned off, the thermostat must be replaced.
- Control board: If the sensor is good, the EOC relay may be stuck closed, continuously powering the burner or element. Replace the EOC.
- Verify wiring: If the issue began after a repair, double‑check all wiring against the schematic to ensure bake and broil circuits are correctly connected.
