Possible Causes
Incorrect air shutter adjustment, Dirty burner ports, Wrong orifice for gas type (NG vs LP), Low or high gas pressure
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off the burner and allow components to cool. If you suspect a gas leak, shut off gas and contact a professional.
- Clean burner: Remove and clean the burner head and cap to ensure all ports are clear.
- Check air shutter: Under the cooktop or at the burner tube, locate the adjustable air shutter. A yellow, lazy flame usually indicates not enough air. Loosen the screw slightly and open the shutter a small amount, then retighten and test. Aim for a blue flame with small yellow tips.
- Verify gas type: Confirm the range is configured for your gas type (natural gas or LP). If recently converted, ensure the correct BlueStar orifices were installed.
- Call for pressure check: If flames remain abnormal, have a licensed gas technician check inlet pressure and regulator operation.
