Possible Causes
Spill or cleaning fluid in knob area, Shorted burner valve switch, Moisture in switch harness, Faulty spark module sensing circuit
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power to the cooktop to stop the sparking. Turn off gas if you smell gas.
- Dry the area: Remove burner knobs and dry around the valve stems with a cloth. Allow several hours for internal switches to dry.
- Test switches: Restore power and turn each knob on and off. If sparking starts when a specific knob is moved, that burner valve switch may be shorted.
- Inspect switch harness: With power off, remove the top and inspect the ignition switch harness for moisture or corrosion.
- Replace faulty switch: Replace the affected burner valve switch or entire switch harness if damaged.
