Possible Causes

Failed oven temperature sensor (RTD), stuck bake relay on main control board, miscalibrated electronic range control, blocked oven vents causing heat buildup

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn the oven OFF and open the door to vent heat. Shut off power at the breaker before removing panels.

  • Allow to cool: Let the oven cool completely. Try a simple bake cycle at 350°F and monitor with an oven thermometer.
  • Check oven sensor: With power OFF, locate the temperature sensor probe inside the oven (rear wall). Remove the mounting screws and gently pull the sensor forward. Disconnect the connector and measure resistance with a multimeter; at room temperature it should be ~1080 Ω at 70°F (varies slightly by model). Replace if open, shorted, or far out of spec.
  • Inspect wiring: Check the harness from the sensor to the main control board for burns, pinched wires, or loose connectors.
  • Control board check: If the sensor tests good and wiring is intact, the bake relay on the main control board may be stuck closed. In that case, replace the electronic range control (ERC).
  • Ventilation: Ensure rear and top vents are not blocked by foil, pans, or cabinetry modifications that trap heat around Café ranges.
