Possible Causes
Failed door lock motor assembly, broken door lock switch, jammed lock mechanism, wiring issue between lock assembly and control board
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn off power at the breaker. The door lock mechanism can move unexpectedly if power is restored while working.
- Check for mechanical jam: Inspect the door latch area for bent metal, debris, or misalignment. Gently try to move the latch hook with power OFF; it should move slightly but not be seized.
- Access lock assembly: Pull the range forward and remove the rear panel behind the control area. Locate the door lock motor assembly on Café models (usually at the top center).
- Inspect wiring and switches: Check the harness to the lock motor and the position switches. Look for loose connectors or burned wires.
- Test lock motor: With power disconnected, measure resistance of the lock motor coil; an open reading indicates a failed motor. Also test continuity of the lock/unlock position switches while manually moving the lock arm.
- Manual unlock: If the door is stuck locked, use the manual release (if provided) or gently move the lock arm to release the door before replacing parts.
- Replace assembly: Replace the door lock motor assembly if the motor or switches are defective.
