Possible Causes

Clogged burner ports, misaligned burner cap, weak gas flow from valve, dirty or cracked spark electrode

How to Fix / Troubleshooting

Safety first: Turn off the burner knob and ensure there is no gas smell before working. Do not use open flames to test for gas leaks.

  • Check burner cap: Remove and reseat the burner cap on Café gas ranges, ensuring it is centered and level on the burner base.
  • Clean burner ports: Use a soft brush or a wooden toothpick to clear debris from the small gas ports around the burner head. Do not enlarge the holes.
  • Inspect electrode: Check the spark electrode near the burner for cracks or heavy buildup. Clean gently with a non-abrasive pad.
  • Test gas flow: Turn the knob to Lite and listen for gas flow while it clicks. If there is no gas sound, the surface burner valve or supply may be restricted and should be checked.
  • Replace parts: If cleaning and alignment do not restore ignition, replace the burner head or spark electrode for that burner.
