Dacor
Ignition failure on single burner
Gas cooktop burner will not ignite but can be lit with a match
Advertisements
Possible Causes
Clogged burner ports, Misaligned burner cap, Weak or cracked spark electrode, Loose ignition wire for that burner
How to Fix / Troubleshooting
Safety first: Turn OFF all burner knobs and ensure there is no gas smell before working on the cooktop.
- Clean burner head: Remove the burner cap and burner head. Use a small brush or toothpick to clear debris from the gas ports and the small ignition port near the electrode. Do not enlarge the holes.
- Check cap alignment: Reinstall the burner head and cap, ensuring they sit flat and centered. Misalignment can prevent gas from reaching the igniter.
- Inspect electrode: Verify the electrode tip is close (2–4 mm) to the burner and not cracked. If cracked or burned, replace the electrode.
- Test spark: With power ON and gas OFF, turn the knob to ignite and look for a strong blue spark at the electrode. If no spark, inspect the ignition wire under the cooktop and reseat or replace as needed.
